Retirement also beckoned for Wendy, as she left Health Promotion and the Outer Hebrides Alcohol & Drug Partnership at the beginning of April. Wendy Ingledew, Substance Misuse Coordinator Tina returned to Western Isles Health Board in the role of Smoking Officer with Health Promotion, and as the department’s role expanded, so too did Tina’s responsibilities. Although working with Health Promotion for the majority of her career, Tina originally began her nursing training at the old Lewis Hospital, leaving the service after having her children. Tina Burgess, Senior Health Promotion OfficerĪfter working with Health Promotion since the 80’s, Tina retired from the department in March as Senior Health Promotion Officer, with remits spanning from maternal and infant nutrition to older people and homelessness. The play included specially written songs to promote the smoke free message and was created to encourage audience participation. The Scottish Government’s ambition is for only 5% of the Scottish population choosing to smoke by 2034. The Aliens looked at the attitudes to smoking over several decades right up to 2034. The Aliens came from a planet called KEMOS EERF DREESHBI and this is an anagram of Smokefree Hebrides. The storyline centred on young people looking at smoking in the future and from the perspective of an alien community. Pupils acted and sang in three performances of the show and received fantastic reviews from the audiences and in our competition feedback form. Second year pupils in both schools performed a musical drama for 400 primary schools pupils at An Lanntair. This includes behind the hostel and on the lookout.On 15th June Smokefree Hebrides teamed up with Pupils and teachers from the Nicolson Institute and Lionel school to support the Tobacco Control Strategy for Scotland (2013).
